Journey in Purple is a meditation on movement—on the sacred path taken by Am Yisrael as they made their way through the wilderness toward Har Sinai. The deep, rich purples in this painting speak of mystery, awe, and the quiet transformation that happens when we walk toward something greater than ourselves.
Purple is the color of preparation—of dusk before revelation, of twilight before light. It holds the tension between the unknown and the soon-to-be-known. This is the color of spiritual readiness, of walking forward even when the mountain is not yet in sight.
As I painted this piece, I imagined the hearts of the people—filled with questions, with hope, with trembling anticipation. The figures move in silence, abstract and softened, part of the landscape and yet separate from it. Around them, the desert is vast, but their direction is clear: forward. Upward. Toward something eternal.
Journey in Purple is a painting about faith in the process. It’s a glimpse of what it means to walk with purpose—not because the destination is visible, but because Hashem is guiding every step.
