Carrying the Ark offers a moment—just one, fleeting frame—into a scene most of us have only imagined: the Leviim lifting the Aron HaKodesh and carrying it forward on their shoulders, steady and silent, through the wilderness and through time.
This painting is not grand or theatrical. It’s intimate. Humble. The figures are wrapped in movement and devotion, absorbed in their task, almost unaware of the holiness they carry. As I painted this piece, I felt like I was peeking through a tear in time. The kind that lets you see not just what was, but what is eternal. The Leviim are still walking, the Aron is still at the center, and we are still being guided by it.
The composition is focused and calm, using a narrow canvas to draw the eye directly to the center—to the weight they bear, and the light it carries. There is a sense of reverence in the posture of the figures, in the grounded palette, in the stillness of the moment.
